<image:caption>Restored by VAF in 2016. Fabricated from steel tubing out of with fifty-five hundred actual and fabricated nails in the shape of a bird. The work weighs five tons, and rests upon a nest of ninety thousand nails. The original black coating was flaking due to corrosion. VAF restored the piece to the base metal allowing it to rust evenly, and sealed it with a protective coating. We reinforced broken and weak internal welds and sealed off hundreds of open ended tubes to prevent water pooling inside.</image:caption>

Created in 2005, it responds to her experience of living in Sabah, Malaysia in the late 1960s as well as to increasing religious and cultural animosities based on today's world conflicts. "Araby" says Kreeger Davidson "is my way of remembering the teachings of the Qu'ran. [It is] a reminder that Islam gave rise to a great political, intellectual, and artistic civilization, capable of great heights in architecture, philosophy, literature, and mathematics.”</image:caption>

The metal bands contained black asphalt and on the designated day every year the shadows cast by the spheres and poles would aline with the black asphalt pattern. The alignment was no longer correct. Versteeg Art Fabricators suggested a better solution with weldments from stainless steel. These were securely attached to cast concrete piers. This new shadow pattern will last for a very long time. We always advise our customers on ways their sculpture commission can be as maintenance free as possible.</image:caption>

Badly corroded, it was in need of extensive restoration work. In 2005, VAF refurbished the piece and corrected the bearing assembly so the public (with some effort!) can once again slowly turn it. A plague denoting this restoration is still visible by The Cube today.</image:caption>

<image:caption>The original metal work for the shadow patterns of the spheres and poles severely corroded and shifted over the years.
